Temple Open House

On Valentine's Day, all of my extended family got together for a brunch at the clubhouse.  We celebrated everyone's birthdays for the quarter which included my Grandpa who turned 85.  My grandparents are amazing people and I am grateful for the the times we get to spend with them. After the brunch, we all went to the Draper Temple Open House.   Jaxon and Claire did surprisingly well. The highlights for Jaxon were the bus ride, the elevators, and the cookie at the end.

More Birthday Fun!

Since my parents were in town, we had a big combined birthday party for Jaxon and Claire on Friday.  The only thing Jaxon wanted for his birthday was a cake with little carrots on top and chocolate at the bottom.  He saw one at Costco and couldn't stop talking about it.  It ended up being a big hit and all the kids loved the carrots.  Claire wasn't shy with her cake and went for it face first.  We opened gifts, ate cake and ice cream, and enjoyed being together.  Thanks to our families for coming and always supporting us!

Valentine's Day

Jeff and I celebrated Valentine's day early and of all days on Jaxon's Birthday. But he was able to spend it with my mom which I'm sure was more fun for him anyway.  Jeff's work was sponsoring the dinner and the ballet Madame Butterfly.  It was fun to get dressed up and go out.  The dinner was at the Wells Fargo Building which had an incredible view.   We had fun at dinner-mainly making fun of the variety of people that were there.  There was a silent auction and I still regret not bidding on the Wells Fargo cookie jar.  Not really--it was really ugly.  On the way to the ballet, Jeff and I were walking out the revolving door.  He thought it would be funny to push it really fast and it was funny until I managed to pull the handle off the door. Oops!

The ballet was incredible.   It was amazing how well you could follow the story with the dancing and the music.  We had excellent seats and I enjoyed every minute of it!  We had a wonderful early Valentine's Day!

Jaxon's Birthday

Jaxon's birthday was last Thursday.  It's fun that he is at the age where he can now pick what he wants to do.  He chose Gymcats for our activity.  There were only a few other kids so Jaxon was able to do whatever he wanted.  He loved the rope and was laughing his head off because Claire was afraid of it.

For lunch, he originally wanted to go to the telephone place (aka the Training Table).  But knowing how much he loves water fountains and waterfalls, I thought he would love the Mayan. So I spent the whole day on Wednesday talking up the restaurant and convincing him that's where he wanted to go--which wasn't hard to do--he was sold when I mentioned waterfall. Anyway, after Gymcats we drove to the Mayan and realized it isn't open until 4 p.m.  Normally, we could have just gone later, but Jeff and I had evening plans.  At first I thought he was ok, but he just got more and more sad and I could tell he was trying not to cry.  Way to go Mom--ruin his birthday!  I felt so bad.  He eventually did break down and acted completely heartbroken.   After some hugs and a promise to go there soon, we ended up at the Training Table and all was forgotten with his fries and ice cream sundae.  Phew!

My mom was in town for his birthday, so he was excited to spend the evening with "Suzanne".   Jeff and I had tickets to the ballet since his work was sponsoring it (post to follow).  He had a great time playing with his toys and even though I told him not too--tackling Grandma!  He is an unbelievable kid and I am amazed everyday by the things he knows and learns.  He cracks me up all the time and I feel lucky to be his mom.  We all love Jaxon and the energy and love he brings to our family!!

Claire's 1st Birthday!

I can't believe that Claire turned one last month.  It seems like yesterday that we were bringing her home from the hospital.  She has been such a blessing in our family!  We love her so much!

We took the kids to the mall to celebrate her birthday.  Jaxon and Claire had a blast together in dino town.  They also loved the carousel and eating at Hot Dog on a Stick.   Jeff and I wanted to get Claire's ears pierced for her birthday.  I'm sure that's what she always wanted!  She did great and hardly cried.   The earrings look adorable.   She loved sharing her cake with Jaxon.  It's a toss up who ended up with more cake on their face by the end!

Big Week!

This week has been quite the productive week.  I started potty training Jaxon on Monday which has gone fairly well.  We bought a potty watch which reminds him when to go and plays fun songs. Jaxon has loved it and I would recommend it to anyone trying to potty train. We also made him a sticker chart so anytime he goes he gets a sticker.  When he fills up the whole chart he gets a fish. He's been doing really well and I am excited to only have one kid in diapers.  Claire has started taking steps this week.  She takes a couple steps and then falls down and starts laughing.  She thinks it is the funniest thing in the world.  I give her a couple of weeks before she is walking everywhere.  Being a mom is the greatest.  I love watching the kids grow up and learn new things-even though I wish the time didn't go quite so fast!  :)

Jaxon has loved all the snow we've gotten so far.  He would play in it for hours if he didn't get cold.  His favorite thing is to kick off the icicles.  Still on his list to do are sledding and making a snowman.

We went to our ward Christmas Party last Saturday.  After breakfast, the primary did a nativity reenactment and then we waited for Santa to arrive.  Jaxon was a little skeptical at first, but wanted to ask Santa for another Christmas tree and where his sleigh was.  Jeff and I both thought he wouldn't sit on Santa's lap, but he surprised us both.  Apparently, he had so much fun, that he wanted to go straight to the mall after and see Santa again.   Claire also did very well--she was fascinated by him and just stared.

The "Dad List"

Every year for my Mom's Birthday, she takes the girls shopping for a weekend. This year they went to Provo and stayed the night. With Amy gone this meant that it was the first time I was alone with both kids overnight. Thinking that I could not possibly handle this responsibility on my own, she left me a detailed "Dad List". I decided to chronicle by showing what the list told me to do and what I actually did.

The list is in red, what I actually did is in black.
  • Read stories and play with the kids until bedtime.
  • Go golfing with Grandpa Dave and then have Kailey "play" with the kids so I can watch the Jazz game.
  • Get Claire asleep by 8PM and Jaxon hopefully by 10PM
  • Both kids asleep on the car ride home at 8PM
  • Change the kid's diapers as soon as they are dirty
  • Changed their diapers after getting leaked on, twice
  • Claire will wake up at 8AM Jaxon at around 9AM
  • Dad woke up at 10AM to the sound of Jaxon ringing the doorbell
  • Waffles or Pancakes for breakfast for Jax
  • Marshmallows in a cup
  • Solids throughout the day for Claire
  • Eight bottles equals a solid, right?
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Motrin for Claire's cold
  • Woke the girls up in the morning to ask Amy how much medicine to give Claire
  • Claire will take a nap in her crib every few hours
  • Claire took a nap on Dad every couple of hours
  • This might be a little tough
  • This was actually a lot of fun
We all managed to survive the weekend thanks to a little help from the "Dad List"!

Fall Drive

We went for our annual fall drive up
Butterfield Canyon over the weekend
We were excited to have McKay
with us for this trip. Jaxon was so
excited, he waited on the front door-
step for McKay to come (as you can see in
the first picture). It was a little late to go
on the drive, most of the leaves had
already fallen, but it was still beautiful.

St. George

We decided October would be a perfect time to do our yearly family trip to St. George.  We left on Wednesday morning and made it in about 4 hours.  Once we got there, we went to Wal-Mart to get groceries for the week.  After, as we were driving around trying to decide where to eat, we saw an In-N-Out Burger.  We couldn't resist one of our favorite animal style hamburgers.  It was as good as we remembered--at least one of us ended up eating there everyday!   Jaxon chose to go to the park that night over swimming.  It was a great park for him and he had fun driving the motorcycle and digging with the digger.  Claire loved the swings and was happy and content because her dad was holding her (she is such a daddy's girl).  Jeff and I watched Life later that night.  He was quite disappointed that his PS3 didn't work down there--I wish I felt the same disappointment! :)

On Thursday, we decided to go swimming.  I ran on the treadmill while Jeff swam with the kids. Claire was not a big fan of the pool--I thought maybe she was just tired the first day, but she never really liked it.  Luckily, Jaxon had a blast and loved playing in the kids pool as well as the indoor pool. Of course, fun at the pool for Jaxon is taking off the lids by the side of the pool and trying to figure out how it all works.   He did make some friends at the pool and had fun playing catch with them.  We continued our tradition of going to the outlet stores but did slightly less damage this time around.   We made an In-N-Out run for dinner and listened to the BYU game when we got back.  The BYU game was the only bad part of the trip--what a downer!  But we were over it fairly quickly.

Friday was another beautiful day--the weather was absolutely perfect while we were there. Since we didn't get enough shopping in at the outlets (Jeff would beg to differ), we went to the mall on Friday.  We spent most of our time in our favorite store--Barnes and Noble.  Jeff and I enjoy finding new reads and Jaxon could play with the trains for hours.  Suprisingly, we didn't come out with any books--I think that is a first for us.  We ate dinner at Larsen's and enjoyed some great shakes.  Later, we went on a drive around St. George.  It is such a great place--I kept thinking that I would not mind living there at all.  That night, we relaxed at the condo. Jaxon's favorite things to do in the condo were putting on dog shows for Claire (starring himself as Max) and searching for lizards in the backyard with Dad.

The highlight of Saturday was going to the temple and walking around.   In one of the visitor center's, there was the nicest missionary who didn't have any legs.  He was still able to walk--Jaxon was fascinated with him.  Later that day when we asked him what his favorite part of the trip was, he said, "the man with no legs." Even now he will bring it up and will say "Remember that man with no legs?" It's amazing what they take in and remember.  We also went to Spoon Me for yogurt that night.  I wish we had one closer to us--it is so yummy!  (Thanks Lisa for introducing us to it!)

Sunday we spent the day traveling and then Jeff went back to work.  It's always a bummer when Sunday afternoon comes around and he heads back to work--it was especially hard after such a fun vacation.  The trip was so great!!  I feel blessed to have such a wonderful husband and kids. I love spending time with them and creating so many wonderful memories!  I can't wait until next year's trip.

LOGAN

We spent conference weekend in Logan, we had a great time. Most of my family made the trip northward. The men went to the BYU/USU game and watched the Cougars get a sloppy victory. Utah State's stadium has a wonderful atmospheres, it is among the best that I have experienced. It was nice see my friends at the game. Plus, anytime I can spend with my Dad is time well spent.

Saturday was an absolute blast. We went to a bowling/fun center in Logan. We split into teams on the bowling with Brian, Kris, Amy, and Me coming out as the winners. We did Laser Tag where I managed an intimidating score of 0. Most of us went Roller Skating, not me, the funniest part was the skate pickup counter. After waiting a couple of minutes, a long time for any Trimble to wait, we helped ourselves to our own skates. At one point Jaxon wandered into the back and we saw a man come out and we thought, oh no we are going to get in trouble. Luckily the man working in the back turned out to be Grandpa Dave. We finished the night by getting some Aggie Ice Cream and watching the baseball and football games.

WHAT A FUN WEEKEND WITH THE FAM!!!!!!

Sunday, September 21, 2008

This is Amy--I have decided to add some posts every now and again.  I am new at the blogging thing, but I have so much fun reading everyone else's that I have decided to try it out.  This weekend was a ton of fun.  It is so nice to have three days to spend together as a family.  On Thursday, I went with Jeff down to Orem.  While he went to class, I took the kids to visit with my Grandma and Grandpa Greenland.  We had a really nice visit with them and are hoping to make this a Thursday tradition.

The highlight of Friday was going out to dinner at the Olive Garden, though we were reminded why we usually opt for take out over going out to eat at nice restaurants.  We had been sitting down for no more than five minutes when Jaxon spilled his water all over.  That's pretty inevitable, but then the waitress brought me a raspberry lemonade to drink.  So I picked it up to take a drink and the glass broke in half.  It was the craziest thing.  As if I wasn't wet enough before!  It was one of those meals that you just try and get out of there as soon as you can.  The night did go uphill later when we went to Barnes and Noble (one of our families favorite places to go).  Jaxon loves to play with the trains and Jeff and I enjoy looking for new reads.

On Saturday, Jeff took Jaxon to the BYU game while I took Claire to a shower for Kasey's fiance, Amy.  Jeff says Jaxon did really well and had fun--he even fell asleep in Jeff's lap for most of the second quarter.  BYU beat Wyoming 44-0-go Cougars.  This should be a great football season. The shower with Claire was also a lot of fun.  We played fun games and had great food!

Movie Weekend

We had a pretty fun weekend. I am absolutely loving having a three day weekend each week. Thursday we went to the Gateway with my Mom to buy her a new iPhone. We had so much fun spending time with "Faye," as Jaxon calls her. We went to Skybox for lunch and Amy says that she had the best salad that she has ever had there, while I say I had the best raspberry lemonade. I watched "Rounders," thumbs down, and Amy watched the Women's Gymnastics.
Friday was a movie day, Stuart and I took Jaxon to his first Star Wars movie "The Clone Wars." Jaxon was very good and sat through the entire film. He did spend about five minutes smashing Stuart's spilt chips into a million little pieces. Overall the movie was just sub-par, a little long for a kids show. The best thing to come from the movie is Jaxon can now tell us that Yoda was in the movie. We went to my parents for dinner and they ordered Indian food. It was really good, it had been a really long time since I last had it. We played a quick game of salad bowl and then came home to put the kids to bed. Stuart and his brother T came up and wanted to go and see "Tropic Thunder." With Amy's permission I went and saw my second show of the day. It was actually pretty funny though a little on the crude side. On our way out T almost got us into a fight. You reach a certain age where you really feel like you will never get into a fist fight if you haven't been in one before and last night I thought it was all going to happen.
Saturday was a little lazier of a day, spent most of the day setting our network up again. We went out in the backyard and just spent time hanging out and enjoying the beautiful weather. We came in and watched another movie "In the Shadow of the Moon" and it was fantastic. It was about the people who landed on the moon. Most of the clips were being shown for the first time. Now we are watching the third season of "Lost." We have been looking forward to it for quite some time!
